Drs. Johnston are trained and certified in myopia (nearsighted) management. In the past, treatment for myopia was limited. Updated research now provides us with more options for our younger population. We are able to consider myopia management as young as 6 years of age.
Statistics to keep in mind:
- If both parents are near-sighted, your child will have a 50% chance of becoming near-sighted.
- If one parent is near-sighted, your child will have approximately 33% chance of becoming near-sighted.
- If neither parent is near-sighted, you child still has a 25% chance of becoming nears-sighted.
Current treatment options can decreased the speed of myopic progression up to 50%.
Myopia is linked to increased odds of retinal detachment, cataracts and myopic maculopathy. If we can help decrease myopia, the risk of associated eye diseases also decreases. Bring your children in today for an assessment to see if they qualify.
